Greece is known for many things. Mostly for i's belief in Greek gods. Sometimes for its foods, their cities, and their mountains. But do you know what kinds of gods they have, or what they do? Do you know what kinds of food they eat? Do you know what kinds of architecture they have? Or what their greatest cities are? How about the mountains!

The Greek gods Οι Έλληνες Θεοί

Have you heard of the Greek gods? Do you know what they are? The people of Greece made up the gods to explain the seasons, death, etc. The Greek gods had extreme powers that we obviously do not have. The king of the gods the lord of the sky was Zeus. He was strong and mighty and he controlled all of the gods. From there he had a wife/ sister, named Hera, Hera was the goddess of marriage, and childbirth.Hera and Zeus' brother's were, Poseidon and Hades. Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades all had a draw. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon got the sea and Hades got the underworld. Each of them had the same amount of power as Zeus, strong and mighty. Hera's sisters were, Demeter, Hestia, and Hebe. Demeter was the goddess of the harvest. Hestia was the goddess of the home and hearth. She was important back when the gods first claimed their domain, but slowly drifted into a minor god, as did Hebe. No one knows much about her truthfully. Hebe was the goddess of youth, and the cupbearer of the gods. The gods were all mighty and strong. There are more gods: as Artemis, her twin Apollo, Athena, Diyonosis, Hephaestus, Hermes, Ares, and Aphrodite. Artemis and Apollo were the children of Leto and Zeus. Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness, and protector of animals, and hunting. She also "drives the moon" across the sky. She made a vow never to get married and roams around the woods hunting with her maiden hunters. Apollo is the god of the sun, he "drives the sun", he is the god of prophecy, music, intellectual pursuits, and healing. Athena was the daughter of Zeus and Metis. Zeus swallowed Metis because he believed that if she gave birth to a son then he would overthrow Zeus. Zeus was fine until he had an earsplitting headache. He begged his son Hephaestus to crack open his head with an axe, which he did. Athena emerged from his head fully dressed in armor. She became the god of wisdom, and warfare. Diyonosis is the god of wine son of Zeus and Semele. Diyonosis took Hestia's place at the Olympian Council. Hestia resigned because she knew that was the only way to keep peace in the family. Hephaestus is the son of Zeus and Hera. Hephaestus is the god of the forge. Hera was disgusted with her son because of how ugly he was. Once Hera and Zeus got in a fight and Hephaestus took Hera's side, Zeus, enraged, threw Hephaestus out a window and he fell from Mt. Olympus, becoming uglier. Then there's Hermes, Hermes is the son of Zeus and Maia, Hermes is the god of messaging, and some claim the god of healing, travelers, merchants and thieves. Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera, Ares is the god of war. Ares was un- believably handsome and was in love with Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the goddess of Love and Beauty. She was born from sea foam. She was married to Hephaestus, but her lover was Ares. To learn more about the Greek gods go to: Greek Gods. Now in modern time Greece they believe in the Christian Orthodox\

Athens

Αθήνα

Athens is the capital of Greece. Athens is located 37degrees 58 north and 23 degrees and 43 east. It's area is 411,717 km squared. Athens got it's name from the greek goddess Athena. The goddess of war and wisdom. The legend has it that when Athens was still an un- knowned piece of land they wanted a patriot. Athens couldn't decided between Athena and Poseidon, the god of the waters. Athens wanted to know which god could give them the best "gift". Poseidon gave them a saltwater spring. Athena gave them the first ever olive tree. Athens chose Athena. Therefore naming their land Athens. Athens main exports are: olives (obviously), cheese, and olive oils.
